About

In the grounds of the ancient Sussex farmstead of Old Church Farm, Guestling, at the end of the lane to the Norman Church off the road between Hastings and Rye, are three luxurious rental cottages: The Granary, The Dairy and Provender. This idyllic farmstead lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, between Rye and Hastings, two miles to the sea, on the 1066 Country Walk and amidst wonderful countryside. The welcoming local pub in Pett is a 15-minute walk away through the Woodland Trust’s Guestling Wood in the next field. The cottages have total privacy, parking and secluded private gardens, and are set within approx. 3 acres of parkland, orchard and ponds overlooking rolling countryside. The farmhouse dates from around 1540 and was once owned by the Sackville family. In earlier times the Cinque Ports’ commercial court was held here, which was known in consequence as “The Guestling”.

This tranquil rural retreat is sheltered by undulating hills and ancient woodland. Wildlife abounds: rabbits, badgers, ducks, moorhens, pheasants and many species of bird. With the flint Norman Church to one side and uninterrupted distant rural views to the other, the location of these stylish Sussex cottages is very special. Yet only two miles away in Ore, there is an Aldi, Tesco, Co-op, chemist and fast-food outlets.

The Granary

A large, heavily beamed Elizabethan barn and square oast converted to accommodate five adults with two double bedrooms, (one with ensuite and slipper bath, one next to the family bathroom) and one single bedroom. The book-lined sitting room has french doors with church view.  Across a hallway is the impressive dining kitchen with a pew and Pugin altar screen and farmhouse table seating 8. The Utility room has a separate shower.

The sheltered garden is ideal for outdoor eating and there is an outdoor Belfast sink for dog and boot washing. Dogs welcome by arrangement.

Facilities include: Wi-fi (+/-200mbps download), microwave, dishwasher, washing machine,  picnic hamper and rugs. Cot, two child beds and highchair available.  Other facilities for all properties are listed below.

The Dairy

A light one-storey conversion of the farm’s dairy to give a welcoming double bedroom, bathroom with bath and shower, and large airy open plan living room with piano, kitchen area and library. Painted wooden floors and tongue and groove walls create a charming country feel and the views are of church and countryside.  The southwest facing garden has decking with an outdoor eating area. The Dairy is the perfect setting for a holiday of any length for two to relax and explore the pleasures of Sussex.

Facilities include: Wi-fi (+/-200mbps download), piano, microwave, washing machine, picnic hamper and rugs.  Single-storey, no-step access. Please enquire for more information on accessibility. Other facilities for all properties are listed below

Provender

The smallest of the cottages and newer than the others by several hundred years!

Provender is a typical wood-framed farm building. It sits at the highest point of the farmland and its french doors open onto a glorious view of ancient woodland and distant fields. Its small proportions belie the facilities it offers: kingsize bed, bathroom with walk-in shower, and kitchen and sitting areas. Beyond the french doors is decking with an outdoor sitting/eating area to take full advantage of the view. This is the ideal retreat for a couple to simply relax in glorious countryside or take advantage of all the pleasures of Hastings, Rye and the coast. Provender is the most suitable cottage for weekends and short breaks. Please enquire for accessibility information.

Facilities

Facilities at all the cottages include parking, TV, DVD, library of books and DVDs, microwave, hairdryer, clothes drying, electric stoves and picnic hampers and rugs.
