PASHLEY MANOR GARDENS East Sussex Rose Garden

About

Visit award winning Pashley Manor, on the border of Sussex and Kent to enjoy 11 acres of gorgeous gardens. These gardens are family owned - the culmination of a lifetime of passion for gardening, an appetite for beauty and an admiration of the tradition of the English Country garden. A few hours in these immaculately maintained gardens is an ideal way to relax and reconnect with nature. Whether you are new to gardening or a life-long fan we hope the gardens will give joy, and perhaps inspiration, or simply provide a meeting place to enjoy the beautiful vistas, fresh air and peaceful atmosphere while catching up with a friend.

An abundance of colour and interest blooms from April right through to September. Daffodils, hellebores and magnolia in spring are followed by thousands and thousands of tulips, wisteria and bluebells. Then rhododendrons, azaleas and climbing roses and by mid-June hundreds of shrub roses have started to flourish. The Kitchen Garden is plentiful all season – spinach and herbs are joined by courgettes, beans, soft fruits and artichokes then squash, pears and more … an absolute feast, with the fresh seasonal produce featuring on our Café menu. In later summer dahlias take over the garden in a riot of dazzling colours lasting right through into autumn.

Sweeping herbaceous borders are filled with hot reds, oranges and gold; the box hedged Rose Garden and Rose Walk are filled with pinks and whites; in the walled garden Mediterranean purples and blues reflect the water of the ornamental swimming pool; a small formal garden with a lawn and terrace is planted with calming, elegant whites and greens, while the terrace is lined with long borders gloriously overflowing with pinks and purples – at one end leading to the willow tree arching over the water, and at the other leading to beds filled with all shades of yellow and gold with pathways leading to the small orchard and beehives.

Glimpses of sculpture enhance the landscape - a stone Diana the Huntress marks the entrance to the wilder, woodland path that meanders behind the chain of ponds, passing a sculpture of Anne Boleyn on the moated island, believed to be the site of the original dwelling at Pashley, which was owned by the Boleyns and used as a hunting lodge.

Add to all this a Café, where the walls are decorated with the floral works of local artists, and with seating along the Terrace with excellent garden views, serving delicious homemade lunches, scones and cakes; a friendly and knowledgeable garden team; a well-stocked Gift Shop, with a small area selling plants; and a garden sculpture exhibition and the recipe for a wonderful day out is complete.

Lovely display of tulips in the formal gardens of the manor, unfortunately some had gone over and were past their best, which was surprising as it was the first day of opening for the Tulips. The... Read full review

We were very disappointed with the tulip display, most of them had gone over, the rain last weekend hasn't helped. We paid £15.50 for something we didn't get. Perhaps not the venues fault but they... Read full review

The tulip festival is always a lovely experience at Pashley. This year, in common with many other venues, the weather has been particularly challenging. Early flowering, and very wet conditions due... Read full review
