About

Don't just take our word for it, read all about us in our glowing press reviews, which speak for themselves. "Maggie's... so fresh was the cod, straight from the market downstairs.." (The Sunday Times, 1st July 2022), "One of the top 20 fish & chips by the sea" (The Observer, 5th June 2022).

Maggie Banfield may no longer be at the helm, but Stan, Lionel and all the fabulous Maggie's team certainly are doing her proud, taking on the baton and quite literally serving some of the best fish and chips on the south coast. Choose from staple favourites: cod, haddock or scampi and chips, with portion sizes to suit and a tailored menu just for children. Daily fish specials are also on offer, skate, dabs or monkfish to name a few. For those who prefer something different, how about sausages (regular and vegetarian) or fried halloumi? Lots of side dishes to choose from too, including mushy peas and our delicious homemade tartare sauce.

Although we offer all of the above as a takeaway option, why not try fish with a twist at our latest new foodie venture, Maggie's at the Boat, just a line catch from our cafe. Situated opposite the East Hill Cliff Railway you will find Hastings Old Town street food at its finest here. Try inventive takeaway cuisine, such as smoked fish chowder, dabs in a bun or sweetcorn fritters with excellent dip accompaniments such as Sriracha Marie Rose or wild garlic aioli and seasonal cordials and soft drinks.

Really enjoyed our fish n chips at Maggie's on a return visit after a couple of years. Nice and busy - even at 3 pm- so definitely agree that you need to book, but it's well worth it, flaky cod... Read full review
